2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup: Asante Kotoko Confident of Hosting Home Games at Baba Yara Stadium
Kumasi giants Asante Kotoko are optimistic they will host their 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup home fixtures at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, despite the facility currently falling short of the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) hosting requirements.
The 40,000-capacity venue has been deemed unfit to stage CAF-sanctioned matches in its present condition. However, Communications Director Samuel Safu Duku says renovation works are ongoing to ensure compliance before their first-round preliminary clash against Nigeria’s Kwara United.
“We have been working on the pitch and the entire stadium to meet the CAF standard,” Safu Duku told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show. “We are yet to know when officials from CAF will arrive in Ghana for the inspection, but we will make sure we play our games at the Baba Yara Stadium.”
He confirmed that the club is collaborating closely with the National Sports Authority (NSA) to expedite upgrades, with the NSA bearing most of the renovation costs.
“Kotoko has decided to support the NSA in ensuring that the stadium is up to standard, but the majority of the cost will be taken care of by the NSA,” he explained.
The first leg of Kotoko’s tie against Kwara United is scheduled for Kumasi between September 19 and 21, with the return leg in Nigeria from September 26 to 28. The winner will advance to face Moroccan heavyweights Wydad Casablanca in the next round of the competition.
