The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has officially announced that this year’s GHALCA Top 4 Tournament will now take place at the Accra Sports Stadium, following the decision to relocate from Kumasi’s Baba Yara Sports Stadium due to ongoing renovation works.
Speaking to GHOne TV, GHALCA Chairman Mr. John Ansah confirmed that extensive consultations preceded the venue change, ensuring the competition proceeds as scheduled.
“We are playing in Accra and the date stands the same,” Mr. Ansah stated. “We will be doing the needful where we have to launch the program, but as it stands, Accra Sports Stadium is where we are playing.”
The tournament, slated for August 20–24, will feature a competitive line-up:
- Gold Stars FC – 2024/25 Ghana Premier League champions
- Heart of Lions
- Asante Kotoko
- Hearts of Oak
Strategic Pre-Season Importance
The GHALCA Top 4 serves as a critical pre-season test for participating clubs, offering a competitive platform to assess squad strength, trial new tactics, and build momentum ahead of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.
While Kumasi fans may be disappointed by the relocation, sports analysts suggest the Accra Sports Stadium could offer broader media coverage, better logistics for traveling supporters, and an enhanced spectator experience given the capital’s infrastructure.
Renovations at Baba Yara Stadium
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Ghana’s largest football venue, is undergoing facility upgrades, including improved seating arrangements, floodlight systems, and pitch maintenance. The renovations form part of the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ broader agenda to meet CAF and FIFA standards for international hosting.
The switch to Accra is expected to have minimal disruption to the tournament schedule, with ticket sales, sponsorship activation, and media rights negotiations already in motion.
