Ato Forson Inaugurates Gold Board Tribunal to Boost Ghana’s Mining Reforms
Accra, Ghana – The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has inaugurated the Gold Board Tribunal, a landmark move aimed at strengthening oversight and accountability in Ghana’s gold mining and trading sector.
The tribunal, launched in Accra, is expected to function as an independent adjudicating body to handle disputes, enforce compliance, and promote fairness in gold-related transactions.
According to Dr. Forson, Ghana’s gold remains a major foreign exchange earner, but loopholes in regulation and trade have led to revenue losses. He stressed that the tribunal will work with existing institutions to curb illegal mining, streamline gold trading, and safeguard the state’s financial interests.
“This tribunal is not just an institution but a strong message that Ghana is committed to transparency, fairness, and accountability in the mining industry,” Dr. Forson stated.
He further urged the tribunal members to uphold professionalism, transparency, and impartiality in carrying out their responsibilities.
Industry stakeholders have hailed the initiative as a timely intervention, saying it will restore investor confidence and improve governance in Ghana’s mining sector.
With the establishment of the Gold Board Tribunal, the government hopes to ensure that Ghana fully benefits from its rich gold resources while positioning the country as a hub for responsible mining practices.
