A carbide cylinder explosion at Suame Magazine Zone 18 has left a man in his 40s, a driver’s assistant, in critical condition.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim had visited a mechanic shop to have a vehicle repaired when the explosion occurred. Kwame Appiah, who witnessed the incident, told Adom News that a sudden loud blast from the carbide cylinder startled nearby artisans. Rushing to the scene, they found the victim lying in a pool of blood with deep head injuries.
The injured man was initially taken to Tafo Government Hospital before being transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for advanced treatment.
“We haven’t experienced such an incident in Suame Magazine before, ever since I came here,” Appiah said, noting that the explosion occurred while the shop owner was absent.

He added:
“The man was waiting for his master and the shop owner to repair the fault they came with, but no one can tell how the carbide cylinder exploded to cause this harm.”

The explosion has raised concerns among artisans who rely heavily on carbide cylinders for their daily work, with many expressing fear for their safety. Local authorities and safety regulators are yet to comment on the incident.
