Children of Helicopter Crash Victims Granted Full Scholarships
Accra, Ghana – The children of the eight people who tragically lost their lives in the August 6 helicopter crash have been awarded full scholarships to pursue their education, in a move described as a significant act of compassion and social responsibility.

The announcement was made at a ceremony held at the Office of the Chief of Staff, where former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah formally received the scholarship package on behalf of the bereaved families.
The initiative is a collaboration between the B5 Plus Group and DPS International School, Tema, aimed at ensuring that the affected families receive long-term educational support.
Under the arrangement, two children from each family will be granted full scholarships covering the entire span of their education—from basic school through to A-Levels. The package includes tuition fees, uniforms, textbooks, and boarding facilities where required.
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah commended the programme, describing it as a powerful example of how the private sector can contribute meaningfully to national development and social welfare.
Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, Presidential Advisor on Legal Affairs and former Attorney-General, also praised the initiative. She highlighted the enduring impact of investing in the education of children affected by tragedy, adding that DPS International’s track record of academic excellence made the offer even more significant.
She cited the example of Oheneba Kwame Kyeretwie, son of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who graduated from DPS International and is currently studying Astronomy at Wesleyan University in the United States, as evidence of the school’s strong academic standing.
According to Appiah-Oppong, the initiative is expected to be warmly welcomed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, noting that it serves as a fitting tribute to the memory of those who lost their lives in the crash while offering hope to their families.
The gesture, she added, underscores the importance of compassion and responsibility in the wake of national tragedies.
