Operations at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality were temporarily disrupted on Monday, September 15, after a dispute broke out between two leading members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the district managerial position.
The standoff reportedly began when Madam Fati, the Constituency Secretary, and Ayaa Ayison, a former parliamentary candidate, both stormed the NHIA office claiming to have appointment letters from the Presidency authorising them to assume the role.
The development created tension and confusion among staff and applicants at the office, forcing officials from the Greater Accra NHIA Regional Office to intervene.
Regional authorities have since been holding closed-door discussions with both factions to address the controversy and restore calm.
As of now, no official confirmation has been issued on who will ultimately assume the managerial position
