President Mahama Moved to Tears at Wreath-Laying for Fallen Ghana Air Force Personnel
Accra, Ghana — August 7, 2025
Emotions ran high as former President John Dramani Mahama was visibly moved to tears during a solemn wreath-laying ceremony held in honour of the Ghana Air Force officers who tragically lost their lives in a recent military aircraft crash.
The ceremony, which took place at the Burma Camp Air Force Base, drew government officials, military top brass, families of the deceased, and sympathizers. The atmosphere was one of grief, respect, and national mourning.
President Mahama, who has long been a supporter of Ghana’s military forces, laid a wreath and offered a moment of silent reflection at the memorial site. Struggling to hold back tears, he expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and praised the selfless dedication of the fallen heroes.
“These brave souls served our country with honour and pride. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Ghana owes them a debt that can never truly be repaid,” Mahama said, his voice breaking with emotion.
The crash, which occurred during a routine training exercise last week, claimed the lives of several experienced pilots and crew members. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident, though preliminary reports suggest a technical failure may be involved.
The Ghana Armed Forces has since declared a week of mourning, with flags flying at half-mast across all military installations. Tributes have poured in from all corners of the country and beyond.
