Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that every region in the country will have a passport application centre by the end of December 2025.
He revealed that the first of the new centres will be commissioned this month in Bolgatanga, marking the beginning of a nationwide rollout aimed at decentralising passport services and improving accessibility for citizens.
Mr Ablakwa made the disclosure at a ceremony where five distinguished Ghanaians—travel vlogger Wode Maya, Grammy-nominated reggae artist Rocky Dawuni, broadcaster and entrepreneur Anita Erskine, contemporary artist Ibrahim Mahama, and British-Ghanaian entrepreneur Dentaa Amoateng MBE—were presented with diplomatic passports.
The Minister highlighted ongoing reforms in passport services, stressing that applicants now receive their passports faster, with courier services delivering them directly to their doorsteps, eliminating the burden of long trips to collection centres.
“But we still have seven regions without passport application centres. By December, we will ensure that every region has one, starting with Bolgatanga this month,” Mr Ablakwa said.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry says the expansion forms part of broader efforts to modernise Ghana’s passport regime and enhance public service delivery.
