
Ablekuma North Election Violence: 8 Convicted, Fined GHC 48,000 for Assaulting Hawa Koomson and Others
Eight men have been convicted and fined a total of GHC 48,000 by the Accra Circuit Court for assaulting former Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, and two others during the Ablekuma North parliamentary election re-run held at the Methodist Church Polling Station on July 11, 2025.
Each of the convicts is to pay GHC 6,000, or in default serve 24 months in prison.
They were found guilty of one count of conspiracy to assault and three counts of assault after pleading guilty before the court presided over by Isaac Addo.

Details of the Case
According to Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer, on July 11, 2025, Hawa Koomson, together with Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei, Deputy Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Majeed Mohammed Sanaa, a trader from Alajo, were attacked at the polling station.
The accused reportedly assaulted the victims without provocation, but security personnel at the scene intervened and rescued them. Complaints were later lodged at the Odorkor Police Station and with the CID, after which medical treatment was sought by the victims.
The convicts were subsequently arrested and charged following investigations.
