“Ideas, Not Insults”: Bawumia Urges NPP Hopefuls to Elevate Internal Debate
Accra, Ghana — As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares to select its next flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has issued a compelling call for campaigns grounded in ideas—not personal attacks.
Addressing party delegates and supporters, Bawumia emphasised that internal contestation should revolve around policy proposals and a clear vision for Ghana’s future, rather than mudslinging or derogatory remarks.
“In our internal election, let us make it a contest of ideas,” he stated. “It’s not a contest of insults or denigration of the poor.”

During his message to campaign teams, he reiterated this stance, urging supporters to remain dignified—even in response to provocations.
“We have a solid message we need to speak of so let us focus on that message and avoid all forms of insults. Even if we get insulted, don’t reply with insults, ignore the provocation and focus on our good message of development and progress.”

At the NPP’s 2025 National Annual Delegates Conference in Accra, Bawumia also condemned internal discord and irresponsible language, pointing out how such behaviour weakens the party’s unity and gives an advantage to political opponents.
“An army that wants to win a battle must exercise discipline within its ranks… Too often when we are yet to choose leaders, indiscipline, unacceptable language and unpardonable behavior become the order of the day,” he warned.

He urged party members to redirect their focus outward, to expose the perceived shortcomings and governance missteps of the opposition, rather than battling one another within the NPP.
