Sheila Bartels, the former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, says she is confident that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s success in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries is determined by delegate numbers and not prophetic declarations.
Speaking to JoyNews during the party’s ongoing presidential primary process, Madam Bartels acknowledged her personal belief in spiritual guidance but said political outcomes should not be reduced to prophetic statements that risk undermining public faith if they fail to materialise.
She argued that the increasing mixing of religion with partisan politics could distract from the core mission of the Christian faith, suggesting that national elections and internal party votes are relatively insignificant in the broader context of religious commitment.
“I firmly believe in t
he power of prophecy,” she said, “but electoral history and delegate numbers remain the most reliable indicators of victory.”
Madam Bartels also cautioned that unmet prophetic expectations might weaken people’s faith, saying she hopes supporters do not lose confidence in spiritual guidance when election results are declared.
Her comments come amid early results from the NPP presidential primaries showing Dr. Bawumia leading in several constituencies, including strong performances in Bono East and at party headquarters polling centres.
