Burkina Faso Scraps Visa Fees for All African Nationals to Boost Travel, Commerce
Ouagadougou, — Burkina Faso has announced that it is eliminating visa fees for all African travelers. The measure, approved by the government during a recent cabinet meeting led by military leader Captain Ibrahim Traoré, aims to facilitate travel, trade, and tourism across the continent.
According to Security Minister Mahamadou Sana, from now on African citizens will no longer pay any visa fee to enter Burkina Faso. However, travelers will still be required to fill out an online visa application for approval—only the fee has been waived.
The policy is part of the 2025 Amending Finance Act, reflecting the country’s commitment to pan-African principles. Officials say the decision will strengthen cultural exchange, increase visibility for Burkina Faso abroad, and help promote its tourism industry.
While citizens from many West African countries already enjoyed visa-free access, this new directive extends the benefit to all 54 African nations. Burkina Faso’s removal from ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) last year raised questions about its travel policies, but this new policy aims to preserve and expand continental connections.
