A 30-year-old businessman has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly trafficking five Nigerians into Ghana under the guise of offering them jobs.
The accused, Obasuyi Efosa Bright, has been charged with five counts of Prohibition of Trafficking but pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecution, Bright lured the victims — aged between 19 and 25 — with promises of lucrative employment but instead coerced them into engaging in online romance scams.
The court, presided over by a circuit judge, granted him bail in the sum of GHC100,000 with two sureties, and further ordered him to report to the police twice a month. The prosecution has also been directed to file disclosures and serve them on the defence.
Cybercrime bust at Tema
Prosecutors told the court that on August 21, 2025, the police received intelligence about a group of Nigerian nationals allegedly engaged in cybercrime at a house in Adom Estates, Tema Community 25.
A joint team from the CID Cybercrime Unit and the Cyber Security Authority raided the residence, where Bright and five others were found lodging in a three-bedroom apartment.
Six laptops connected to an active internet service and a Korean web application called “BAND” were discovered, allegedly being used to defraud unsuspecting victims.
Investigations indicated that Bright was the ringleader of the syndicate, having trafficked the five other Nigerians into Ghana under false pretences.
The victims have since been rescued and placed in safe custody, while the seized laptops are being forwarded to the Forensic Laboratory for further examination.
Police say investigations are ongoing.
