Captain Smart Slams EOCO Over Shatta Wale’s Arrest: “It Makes No Sense!”
Media personality Captain Smart has publicly criticized the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and its Executive Director, Raymond Archer, calling the arrest of dancehall superstar Shatta Wale “unnecessary” and “illogical.”
Shatta Wale was detained on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, after honoring an invitation to EOCO’s headquarters in Accra—part of an investigation into the purchase of his yellow 2019 Lamborghini Urus, linked by U.S. authorities to a convicted Ghanaian fraudster. Despite this, his arrest stirred controversy.

Appearing on Onua Maakye on Tuesday, August 26, Captain Smart questioned the motives behind the arrest:
“What was the sense in the arrest of Shatta Wale? How can you arrest a prosecution witness and treat him like a suspect? Are we not crazy?”
He emphasized that the FBI had long been aware of the car’s ownership and never saw the need to detain the musician:
“In the circumstance of the purchase of the vehicle, Shatta Wale was only a victim of that situation. The FBI knew this and simply passed on the information to local security. And as useless as we are, we went ahead to arrest him.”

Following public pressure and legal negotiations, Shatta Wale’s bail was initially set at GH¢10 million but later reduced to GH¢5 million before he was released late on August 21.
