“Come Out on Thursday Night If You Say You’re a Man” – Manhyia Brafo Issues Bold Call During Asantehemaa’s Burial Rites
In the wake of Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s passing, a stirring message has emerged from Manhyia as burial activities intensify. Manhyia Brafo, a linguist of the Asante Traditional Area, has challenged Kumasi residents in a public address: “Come out on Thursday night if you say you’re a man.” The statement was made in the context of the scheduled funeral rites for the late Queen Mother.
The admonition falls just before Thursday of the burial week — a night when Manhyia Palace has reportedly warned against unauthorized nighttime movement. Residents have been urged to respect traditional norms and participate in the rites that are part of the elaborate funeral schedule.

Manhyia’s authority emphasized that certain nights are sacramental and require the community to observe customs in silence and dignity. According to palace announcements, no public gathering or outdoor activity should take place on Thursday night. Those who flout these instructions may face traditional sanctions.
Asatehemaa’s burial rites will span several days beginning with lying in state at Manhyia Palace from the night of September 14, proceeding through public tributes and culminating with the final burial in Breman. The funeral week has been marked by a ban on funerals across Asanteman and strict movement rules, especially during the final rites. manhyiapalace.org+1
