Daddy Lumba’s – Abusua Panin Warns Public
– In the wake of national mourning following the death of legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba, tensions have surfaced regarding the handling of his funeral rites. The head of the family (Abusua Panin), Kofi Owusu, has made it clear that all burial decisions remain the exclusive right of Lumba’s biological family—firmly dismissing any role for the late musician’s long-time partner, Odo Broni.
In a strongly worded statement issued at a press briefing in Larteh-Akuapem, the family spokesperson underscored that although Odo Broni was close to Daddy Lumba’s in his lifetime, she holds no traditional authority or customary claim to dictate burial arrangements.
“The family of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known to the world as Daddy Lumba, has taken full responsibility for his final rites. No one—not even Odo Broni—has the right to interfere with the processes outlined by our customs,” Kofi Owusu emphasized.
This public declaration comes after reports circulated suggesting that Odo Broni wished to influence decisions surrounding Daddy Lumba’s funeral, raising questions about the dynamics between her and the singer’s extended family.
Abusua Panin Owusu also cautioned the media and public against spreading false narratives or speculative claims, urging Ghanaians to “respect the sanctity of our traditions” and allow the family to conduct the burial in peace.
“We welcome everyone who loved Daddy Lumba’s to pay their respects, but it must be done under the authority and direction of his blood family,” he concluded.
As funeral arrangements continue to unfold, the family is expected to release an official date and program in the coming days. The cultural and musical community waits with bated breath to give Daddy Lumba the dignified farewell he deserves.
