FIFA World Cup Draw
FIFA has officially announced that the final draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held in Las Vegas, United States, this December, marking a significant milestone in the build-up to what is expected to be the largest tournament in the history of international football.
Scheduled for December 2025, the event will determine the group-stage matchups for the first-ever 48-team World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This expanded format will feature 104 matches spread across 16 cities, promising an unprecedented global football spectacle.
In a statement released by FIFA, the world football governing body highlighted the strategic significance of hosting the draw in Las Vegas, a city rapidly gaining prominence in the global sports arena. The decision reflects FIFA’s intention to amplify the tournament’s appeal and reach within the North American market.
“Las Vegas represents a new chapter in global football engagement,” said a FIFA spokesperson. “We are excited to bring the world’s attention to a city that is fast becoming a global sports capital.”
The 2026 edition will see the largest number of participating teams in a FIFA World Cup, expanding from 32 to 48 nations, and introducing a new format of 12 groups with four teams each. The top two teams from each group, along with the eight best third-placed teams, will advance to a newly structured round of 32.
The draw will allocate qualified teams into their respective groups based on FIFA rankings and geographical considerations. With qualifying campaigns currently underway in several confederations, nations across the globe are vying for a coveted spot in what promises to be a historic and transformative tournament.
While the exact date in December has yet to be confirmed, preparations for the event are already in motion, with FIFA working closely with local organizers and host cities to ensure a world-class event.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will kick off on June 11, 2026, and conclude with the final on July 19, 2026. This marks the second time the tournament will be held in the United States, following the 1994 edition, and the first time it will be jointly hosted by three nations.
