GES Debunks Reports of Cut-Off Points in School Placement
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed circulating reports suggesting that fixed cut-off points are being used in the ongoing Senior High School (SHS) placement process.
In a statement issued on Friday, August 29, 2025, the Service clarified that school placement is based primarily on a candidate’s raw score, along with several other determining factors. These include the competitiveness of the school, demand for specific programmes, the candidate’s aggregate, residential preferences such as day or boarding, and catchment area considerations.
GES described the reports of cut-off points as false and misleading, stressing that such claims were being spread by “unscrupulous individuals” seeking to misinform the public.
“Anyone relying on such so-called cut-off benchmarks has been misinformed,” the statement read.
The Service further urged parents, guardians, and students to disregard these false claims, assuring the public that the placement process remains transparent, fair, and merit-based, giving every candidate the opportunity they deserve.
