President Mahama
A former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ledzokuku, Daniel Amartey, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other critics to allow former President John Dramani Mahama at least one year in office before passing judgment, should he be re-elected in the 2024 general elections.
Amartey’s appeal comes in response to persistent attacks and skepticism from the ruling party regarding Mahama’s capacity to govern effectively if given another mandate. Speaking at a local party engagement, he emphasized that criticisms should be based on performance, not political bias or historical grudges.
“Ghanaians must allow John Mahama to serve for at least one year before assessing him,” Amartey stated. “It is only fair that he be evaluated based on his performance and not preconceived notions.”
🔍 An Appeal for Objective Governance Assessment
Amartey stressed that the former president should be granted the opportunity to implement his policies and developmental agenda without being prematurely undermined by opposition narratives. According to him, Ghanaians deserve to see a clear contrast between the governance styles of both major parties — but that judgment must be grounded in outcomes, not propaganda.
He further argued that Mahama’s previous administration laid critical developmental foundations, many of which were halted or diverted by the Akufo-Addo government. “Some of the infrastructure projects initiated by Mahama were essential, and it is unfair to judge him solely on unfinished reforms,” he added.
📌 Mahama’s 2024 Comeback: A Divisive Debate
As the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahama’s return bid has ignited renewed political debate. While NDC loyalists believe he offers a viable rescue plan for Ghana’s faltering economy, NPP members frequently criticize his past record and claim his re-election would be regressive.
However, Amartey maintained that the former president has demonstrated both competence and a refined understanding of leadership. He challenged NPP communicators to refrain from personal attacks and instead allow Ghanaians to make an informed decision at the ballot box.
“It’s time we moved past propaganda-driven politics and focused on real issues like jobs, healthcare, and education,” he stated.
🗳️ Looking Ahead to Election 2024
With less than a year to the next general elections, political rhetoric is intensifying. The call for fair judgment from within the NDC’s ranks signals the party’s readiness to reintroduce Mahama with a refined message centered on delivery, inclusion, and national reset.
