Government Settles GH¢9.7bn Coupon Payment Under Domestic Debt Exchange Programme
The Government of Ghana has successfully settled a GH¢9.7 billion coupon payment under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), bringing relief to bondholders and reinforcing its commitment to restoring financial stability.
The Ministry of Finance confirmed that the payment covered coupons due on both old and new bonds affected by the DDEP. According to the Ministry, this move demonstrates government’s resolve to honor its financial obligations despite prevailing economic challenges.
The statement added that the settlement was made possible through improved revenue mobilization and fiscal discipline, aligning with Ghana’s broader efforts to stabilize the economy and regain investor confidence.
“Government reiterates its commitment to working with stakeholders to ensure that the domestic debt operation supports debt sustainability while safeguarding the financial sector,” the Ministry emphasized.
The DDEP, launched in 2023, was introduced as part of Ghana’s strategy to restructure its debt portfolio and secure support under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.
Analysts believe the timely settlement of the GH¢9.7bn payment will help boost market confidence and assure investors of Ghana’s readiness to manage its debt challenges responsibly.
