The government has announced a further increase in the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/2026 season, raising it from GH¢3,278.75 to GH¢3,625 per 64kg bag, equivalent to GH¢58,000 per tonne.
The upward adjustment was approved by the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), chaired by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. This is the second review of cocoa prices since the administration assumed office in January 2025.
It follows a major increase on August 4, 2025, when government raised the producer price from $3,100 to $5,040 per tonne, representing a 62.58% jump in dollar terms.
Addressing a press briefing in Accra, Dr. Ato Forson said the latest review was necessary to keep Ghana’s farm gate price competitive after Ivory Coast raised its cocoa price on October 1.
“You will recall that in August 2025, government announced a producer price of GH¢3,278.75 per bag, translating to about $5,040 per tonne, or 70% of the gross FOB price. That announcement was based on world market forecasts and exchange rate projections.
Subsequently, we have seen some changes, and we needed to review the price. After meeting with stakeholders, we are pleased to announce a new producer price of GH¢3,625 per bag, or GH¢58,000 per tonne, effective Friday, October 3, 2025. This means every cocoa farmer will now earn GH¢400 more per bag,” he said.
The adjustment comes as Ghana and Ivory Coast, which together produce over 60% of the world’s cocoa, continue efforts to secure better prices for their farmers amid volatility in the global commodity market.
