Manchester City bounced back from consecutive defeats in style, as Erling Haaland’s second-half brace inspired a commanding 3-0 win over rivals Manchester United in the Premier League. The result gave City their first win inside 90 minutes against United in their last five competitive meetings.
Foden Strikes First
Both sides began with attacking intent. Haaland went close early, while United tested Gianluigi Donnarumma through Benjamin Šeško. At the other end, Altay Bayındır was beaten in the 18th minute when Jérémy Doku weaved his way into space and delivered a pinpoint cross for Phil Foden, who powered in a header—his seventh career goal against United.
Doku remained electric down the flank, creating further chances for Tijjani Reijnders and Haaland, though both failed to capitalise. United’s best moment of the first half came via a clever Bruno Fernandes free-kick, which Donnarumma safely gathered just before the break.
Haaland Takes Control
After the restart, Haaland imposed himself. Holding off Luke Shaw, he latched onto Doku’s threaded pass and calmly chipped Bayındır to double City’s lead. Moments later, he struck the post, but United could not make their reprieve count as Donnarumma denied Bryan Mbeumo brilliantly.
The Norwegian striker soon punished United again, racing onto Bernardo Silva’s pass to slot home his second of the afternoon and put the derby beyond doubt.
City Back to Winning Ways
With the game effectively sealed, City continued to press, though Reijnders wasted a golden chance to add a fourth. Still, Pep Guardiola’s men finished the match brimming with confidence, silencing critics after back-to-back losses and reaffirming their title credentials.
For Ruben Amorim’s United, however, it was another damaging setback. The defeat leaves them with just one win in five league matches this season, increasing the pressure on the new manager.
