In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the deadly military helicopter crash in Ghana, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah, has confirmed that the aircraft’s black box has been successfully recovered from the wreckage site.
The crash, which occurred earlier this week near Obuasi, claimed the lives of eight high-profile individuals, including government ministers, top security officials, and military personnel. The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the nation and prompted widespread calls for transparency and swift investigation.
Speaking to the press this morning, Hon. Osei-Mensah disclosed that a joint team of military investigators and aviation experts located the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder, collectively referred to as the “black box,” at the heavily guarded crash site.
“I can confirm that the black box has been retrieved. This is a critical breakthrough that will help us understand exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the crash,” the Minister said.
He further stated that the black box has been handed over to aviation authorities and security analysts, who are expected to work in collaboration with international experts to analyze the data.
Ongoing Investigations
Authorities say the retrieval of the black box marks a crucial step forward in determining the cause of the crash. Aviation investigators are expected to analyze audio and flight data to assess whether technical failure, weather conditions, pilot error, or other factors were involved.
President John Mahama has already ordered a full-scale investigation, promising the public that no detail will be spared in uncovering the truth.
Meanwhile, the nation remains in mourning as tributes continue to pour in for the fallen public servants and military personnel.
“Ghana has lost dedicated patriots. We owe it to them, and to the country, to ensure that this tragedy is fully understood and never repeated,” said the Ashanti Regional Minister.
