Pastor Adeboye has predicted his own death
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has stirred widespread discussion after making a rare and personal prophecy about his own death. The respected Nigerian preacher, known globally for his evangelism and spiritual leadership, revealed that when his time comes, it will happen on a Sunday—shortly after he has delivered a sermon during church service.
Speaking during a recent gathering at the church’s Redemption Camp, Pastor Adeboye addressed the topic of death and the brevity of life. His statement, while delivered calmly, left many in the congregation deeply emotional. He expressed that he has no fear of death, viewing it instead as a transition to eternal glory.
“I know how I will go. It will be on a Sunday, right after I have preached the gospel. I will finish my assignment, say the closing prayer, go home, and never wake up again. That is my prayer to God, and He has assured me of it,” Pastor Adeboye declared.
The 82-year-old cleric, who has been at the helm of RCCG since 1981, emphasized that he desires to serve God actively until his very last breath. According to him, dying on a Sunday after ministering would be the ultimate fulfillment of his calling, as it would allow him to depart this world in the same way he has lived—preaching the gospel.
Global Reactions and Public Debate
Pastor Adeboye’s revelation has sparked a wave of reactions from Christians and non-Christians alike. Many of his followers saw the statement as a testament to his unwavering faith and intimacy with God, while others expressed concern that such a declaration could cause undue anxiety among his millions of members worldwide.
Some prominent Nigerian pastors and Christian leaders have publicly prayed for his continued long life, stating that while death is inevitable, the church still needs his guidance for many more years. On social media, reactions ranged from heartfelt tributes to theological debates about whether a person can truly know the exact time of their death.
A Life Dedicated to Ministry
Enoch Adeboye has led the RCCG through decades of growth, transforming it from a relatively small Nigerian church to a global movement with branches in over 190 countries. Under his leadership, the church has become one of the largest Pentecostal organizations in the world, attracting millions to its annual Holy Ghost Congress and other events.
Pastor Adeboye is widely respected for his humble demeanor, disciplined lifestyle, and deep focus on prayer and holiness. Over the years, he has refrained from political controversies, focusing instead on evangelism, charity, and global missions.
On Death and Legacy
During his message, Pastor Adeboye reminded the congregation that death is inevitable for everyone, regardless of status, age, or spiritual standing. He encouraged believers to live their lives in a way that honors God and leaves a positive impact on others.
“Death is not the end for a child of God—it is the beginning of eternal life. The question is not when you will go, but what you will be remembered for,” he said.
If his prophecy about his own passing comes true, it would mark a deeply symbolic end to a life entirely dedicated to ministry. Whether his words were meant as a divine revelation or a personal prayer, they have left a lasting impression on those who heard them.
For now, Pastor Adeboye continues his ministry work with the same passion and commitment that have defined his decades of service, urging believers to focus on their own walk with God and to be ready for the day when they, too, will meet their Maker.
