Immigration Officer’s Murder: Prime Suspect Remanded as Disturbing Forensic Evidence Emerges.
The Adabraka District Court was engulfed in a tense and emotional atmosphere on Friday, August 8, 2025, as Bright Aweh, the man accused of brutally murdering Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, was remanded into police custody for two weeks. The case, now adjourned to August 22, continues to grip the nation amid harrowing revelations from investigators.
Amoah, 38, went missing on July 3 after leaving his Ashongman Estate home to meet a friend. Five days later, his partially burnt body was discovered in a gutter at Abuom Junction near Kwabenya — a grim escalation from what was initially treated as a kidnapping case. Police have since reclassified it as murder following damning forensic findings.
Speaking outside the courtroom, the immigration officer’s sister, Vesta Amoah, delivered an emotional plea:
“All that we’re asking is for justice to prevail. He was our lastborn. My mother is really broken; we can’t eat or sleep. We’re full of pain. Anytime someone is killed, it becomes just another foolish case — we pray this time justice will prevail.”
According to the Director-General of the CID, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, the investigation revealed chilling details. On the night of his disappearance, Amoah reportedly received photos of large sums of cash from Aweh, who had promised to repay a debt. Hours later, Amoah vanished, and his phone went dead.
Aweh was arrested on July 6 after his inconsistent statements raised suspicion. He admitted handing Amoah GHC500,000 — claiming GHC200,000 was debt repayment and the rest was for safekeeping — but the unexplained source of the funds deepened police suspicion.
Forensic searches of Aweh’s home uncovered blood spatter in the living room, walls freshly sprayed with paint in an apparent cleanup attempt, and an empty spray paint can. At a secondary crime scene, police retrieved a burnt woollen carpet stained with blood, a partially burnt camouflage cloth, and a blood-soaked fufu pestle hidden in nearby bushes. His vehicle also tested positive for blood traces.
All items have been sent for forensic analysis, with DNA profiling underway using samples from the deceased’s mother and son.
As the court proceedings continue, public outrage is mounting, with many calling for swift justice in a case that has exposed the dark underbelly of violent crime in Ghana.
