Former Assin Central Member of Parliament and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong has acknowledged the outcome of the party’s presidential primary, describing the result as “a setback” but saying it does not signal the end of his political journey.
Addressing supporters at his campaign office in Shiashie on Saturday, Mr. Agyapong said: “The worst has happened, but that’s not the end of the road.” He encouraged his supporters to remain calm and disciplined, emphasising that politics is a long journey in which victories and defeats are part of the process.
He expressed gratitude to his campaign team and backers for their dedication and sacrifices during the NPP primary contest, highlighting the importance of unity within the party going forward.
Mr. Agyapong urged his supporters to avoid conduct that could deepen tensions within the party, stressing that the NPP is bigger than individual contestants and that party members must come together after the contest.
His remarks came as internal results from the party’s presidential primary showed an overwhelming lead for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who has been widely reported as the frontrunner in the race.
