The Amanfrom District Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Emelia K. Abruquah, has remanded a 35-year-old man, identified as Bra Sammy, into police custody for one month over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, 26-year-old fashion designer Mabel Asantewaa.
The incident, which occurred last Wednesday at Kalabule Chinese near the Kasoa tollbooth in the Ga South Municipality, has left residents in shock.
Police investigations indicate that the suspect reportedly demanded sex from Mabel, who declined on grounds that she was menstruating. The disagreement allegedly escalated, leading to her tragic death.
After the act, Bra Sammy allegedly ingested a poisonous substance in an attempt to end his life. He was rushed to the hospital and, upon recovery, led police to the crime scene, where he pointed out the knife believed to have been used.
He has since pleaded guilty in court and has been remanded to reappear on October 19, 2025.
