A man in his late 30s, identified as Martin Issah, has been shot dead by unknown gunmen at Aketechieso, a mining community in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, October 5, 2025, when Martin Issah and his brother, Daniel Issah, were returning from mining work at Adomanu.
According to reports, the two were ambushed by a group of armed men who demanded their gold detector machine. The confrontation quickly turned violent when the assailants opened fire on the brothers.
Confirming the incident to Citi News, the Assembly Member for the Aketechieso–Amamuom–Anakyirem Electoral Area, Krobea Asante, said the deceased was shot in the face, while his brother sustained gunshot wounds but managed to escape.
Mr. Asante condemned the growing wave of armed attacks targeting small-scale miners in the area and appealed for increased police presence to prevent further bloodshed.
“The situation is becoming dangerous. We need intensified security patrols here because residents are living in fear,” he said.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue, while Daniel Issah is receiving treatment for his injuries.
