My Appointment Was Based on Competence – Kojo Choi
Ghana’s Ambassador-Designate to South Korea, Kojo Choi, has rejected claims that his appointment by President John Dramani Mahama was politically motivated, insisting it was based solely on merit.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Channel One TV, Mr. Choi maintained that his career achievements and professional relationships transcend partisan politics.
“I have never been political. I know many people in the NPP. For instance, our company, PaySwitch, was launched by Dr. Bawumia, who attended because of his interest in digitalisation, not for political reasons,” he explained.
Mr. Choi further noted that First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo had also attended the opening of his art gallery purely out of support for the arts.
“Her presence was inspired by her passion for the arts and her support for my vision to promote emerging artists,” he added.
He stressed that his friendships cut across both major political parties and reiterated that he has “never lobbied or sponsored” any political activity.
“I have always been a quiet entrepreneur,” he said.
Born in South Korea, Kojo Choi moved to Ghana at age 14 and later became a naturalised Ghanaian citizen. Over the years, he has played a pivotal role in strengthening cultural and business ties between Ghana and South Korea.
