NDC’s Bernard Baidoo Projected to Win Akwatia By-Election – Global InfoAnalytics
A fresh survey by Global InfoAnalytics has projected a victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Baidoo, in the upcoming Akwatia by-election slated for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The poll, conducted between August 27 and 28, 2025, sampled 2,050 voters within the constituency. Results show Baidoo leading with 53% support, while his closest contender, Solomon K. Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), trails with 47%.
Background to the By-Election
The by-election became necessary following the sudden passing of NPP MP Ernest Kumi on July 7, 2025, creating a parliamentary vacancy. Akwatia, historically a swing constituency, is now being closely watched as a decisive battleground and an indicator of voter sentiment ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Factors Influencing Voter Decisions
According to the survey, voter preferences are being shaped not only by party loyalty but also by pressing national and local issues, including:
-
Unemployment
-
Economic hardship
-
Limited access to social amenities
Global InfoAnalytics noted, however, that undecided voters could still influence the final outcome, either strengthening Baidoo’s lead or narrowing the race in favour of Asumadu.
Significance
Political analysts say the results of the Akwatia by-election will serve as an early test of strength for both the NDC and the NPP, with potential implications for their strategies going into the next general elections.
