Accra, Ghana – The Aggrieved Newly Posted Teachers (NPTs) group has issued a one-week ultimatum to the government to address their longstanding concerns over non-payment of salaries, following the extension of an earlier deadline initially set for September 23, 2025.
The group, composed of graduates from Colleges of Education and universities, says its members have been unpaid for 12 months and 8 months, respectively.
Despite submitting petitions to the Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities on September 8, 2025, the teachers claim they have received no meaningful response.
Planned Protest
Speaking to Citi News, the group’s Lead Convener, Simon Kofi Nartey, warned that members would stage a demonstration on September 30, 2025, if their demands are not met.
“It is rather unfortunate that as we speak, nothing has been done about the concerns we raised at our press conference. We have no option but to take to the streets to let Ghanaians know what is happening. We have already met with the Greater Accra Regional Police Command and agreed on September 30 for the demonstration,” he said.
The planned protest highlights growing frustration among newly posted teachers over the delays in salary payments, which the group says have caused significant hardship.
Authorities have yet to publicly respond to the latest ultimatum, leaving the education sector and civil society groups watching closely for developments.
