Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policies and Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, has disclosed that under Nigeria’s new tax reforms, all forms of income — whether legitimate or illicit — will be subject to taxation starting January 2026.
Addressing members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David parish in Lagos on Saturday, Mr. Oyedele clarified that the new law, signed by President Bola Tinubu in June 2025, mandates all Nigerians to pay taxes on services rendered in exchange for money.
He specifically noted that the provision extends to sex workers, popularly known as “run girls.”
“If somebody is doing run girls, they go and look for men to sleep with; you know that’s a service. They will pay tax on it,” he told the congregation.
According to Mr. Oyedele, the law does not differentiate between income obtained through lawful or unlawful means.
“One thing about the tax law is it doesn’t separate whether what you’re doing is legitimate or not; it doesn’t even ask you. It just asks whether you have an income. Did you get it from rendering a service or providing a good? You pay tax,” he explained.
