Accra, Ghana – The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to hit the streets of Accra today, Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in protest against what it describes as the selective application of justice under President John Mahama’s administration.
The demonstration, cleared by the police under the Public Order Act, will be led by the party’s National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, and is expected to draw large crowds of party supporters.
Claims of Politically Motivated Arrests
The protest follows a string of arrests of high-profile NPP figures. Among them are Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), who was detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), who was recently picked up by police.
According to the NPP, several other members and sympathisers have also been subjected to politically influenced investigations and arrests, which the party views as part of a wider campaign to intimidate and weaken the opposition.
emand for Fairness
The NPP leadership says today’s demonstration seeks to highlight the government’s alleged “misapplication of justice” and to demand fairness and equal treatment before the law for all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
Party officials insist that while the government claims to be fighting corruption and enforcing accountability, it is instead weaponising state institutions to target opponents while shielding its own officials from scrutiny.
The protest marks the latest flashpoint in an intensifying political climate, as Ghana prepares for the 2026 general elections.
