Korle Bu Nursing Student Exposed in Viral Mobile Money Scam Attempt
A 19-year-old nursing student from the Korle Bu Nursing and Midwifery Training Centre has sparked nationwide debate after being caught attempting to defraud an online seller with a fake mobile money confirmation message.
The incident, which occurred in Adjiringanor, Accra, involved the student allegedly trying to purchase ₵2,000 worth of items using a fabricated transaction receipt. According to eyewitnesses, the seller became suspicious after failing to receive the funds despite the student’s insistence that the payment had gone through.

A video of the confrontation, now viral on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), shows the visibly shaken student pleading for forgiveness while surrounded by the vendor and her associates. The group demanded that she unlock her phone for verification, which she initially resisted. No police intervention was reported at the scene.
The footage has ignited mixed public reactions. While many condemned the young woman’s actions as a serious crime that undermines trust in Ghana’s booming mobile money economy, others criticized the public humiliation, arguing that the matter should have been reported to the authorities instead.
Cybersecurity experts have also weighed in, noting that the case exposes the persistent vulnerabilities in Ghana’s mobile money transaction system. Many small-scale online sellers continue to rely solely on confirmation messages as proof of payment — a loophole often exploited by fraudsters.
Social analysts suggest that growing economic hardship and rising youth unemployment may be driving some students to desperate measures. “This is not just a moral issue; it’s a reflection of the financial pressure young people face,” one commentator noted on X.
As of now, no official statement has been released by the Korle Bu Nursing and Midwifery Training Centre or the Ghana Police Service. The viral video continues to circulate widely, reigniting calls for greater digital transaction security and youth financial education.
