A motorbike rider has died following a hit-and-run crash involving a commercial bus, locally known as a trotro, on the Accra–Kasoa highway at Tetegu.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Wednesday when the speeding bus rammed into the motorcycle, which was carrying a passenger. The rider was killed instantly on impact, while his pillion passenger survived but sustained serious injuries.
Eyewitnesses reported that despite being aware of the casualties, the trotro driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Police officers later arrived to convey the rider’s body to the mortuary. The injured passenger was rushed to hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
Colleagues of the deceased, who operated his motorcycle transport business at Old Barrier along the Kasoa road, described him as a hardworking man. News of his tragic death has left fellow riders in shock, with many lamenting what they say was an avoidable tragedy caused by reckless driving.
Authorities are yet to make an arrest, as investigations into the incident continue.
