Obuasi, Ashanti Region – A fatal road accident on the Obuasi–Dunkwa highway has left one person dead and several others injured after a head-on collision on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
The crash occurred near Sanso Junction when a Kia truck (registration number AS 1434-17), driven by 31-year-old Yahaya Abdul Samed, veered into the opposite lane and collided with a Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus (registration number AS 3789-21) driven by 32-year-old Ibrahim Yusif.
The Sprinter bus, which was en route from Obuasi to Dunkwa with 23 passengers on board, sustained severe damage in the impact. Several occupants suffered injuries and were rushed to the Obuasi Government Hospital and the AGA Health Foundation Hospital for emergency care.
Tragically, 62-year-old Mary Boatemaa, a passenger on the bus, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body has since been deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital mortuary.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Preliminary reports suggest driver error may have played a role, but authorities say a full inquiry will determine the exact cause.
The incident has reignited concerns about road safety on the Obuasi–Dunkwa stretch, a busy route often flagged for reckless driving and poor adherence to traffic regulations.
Road safety advocates have once again urged drivers to exercise caution, while police have assured the public that measures will be taken to prevent similar tragedies.
