A fierce blaze ripped through sections of the Ashaiman Light Industrial Area, popularly known as Fitter Line, in the early hours of Tuesday, September 30, destroying more than 100 wooden structures and gutting two metal containers.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), in a statement on Facebook, said it received a distress call at 3:31 a.m. and dispatched firefighters who arrived on the scene within seven minutes.
Fire crews managed to contain the flames by 4:13 a.m., brought the situation under control by 4:36 a.m., and fully extinguished the fire by 6:35 a.m.
The inferno also damaged a Mazda saloon car with registration number GN 6085-22, along with two containers and their contents. However, swift intervention by GNFS prevented the destruction of over 20 additional wooden structures, several other containers, and eight vehicles.
Despite the widespread damage, no casualties or injuries were recorded. The area is a bustling hub for artisans, mechanics, and traders during the day, raising concerns about what could have happened if the fire had broken out during working hours.
GNFS has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze and appealed for calm as assessments continue.
