Koforidua, Eastern Region- A devastating fire outbreak on Monday evening gutted the residence of the housemaster at Oyoko Methodist Senior High School in Koforidua, completely destroying the structure and its contents.
The incident, which occurred around 6:30 p.m., reduced the building to charred ruins, consuming the roof, ceiling, furniture, personal belongings, and home appliances. However, thanks to the rapid intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the adjoining boys’ dormitory was spared from the blaze.
According to GNFS officials, the first fire engine arrived on-site at approximately 6:34 p.m., bringing the fire under control within 50 minutes and fully extinguishing it by 8:29 p.m. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have originated from an electrical fault in the ceiling of the residence. A comprehensive investigation has been launched to determine the precise cause of the outbreak.
This marks the third reported fire incident within public institutions in less than 24 hours, heightening concerns about the adequacy of fire safety measures across Ghana’s educational infrastructure.

School authorities have expressed profound gratitude to the GNFS for their timely and effective response, which they say prevented a potentially catastrophic escalation.
Stakeholders are calling for an urgent review of fire safety protocols in schools nationwide, particularly regarding electrical installations and emergency preparedness.
