The Acting Director of Pantang Hospital, Dr. Yennusom Maalug, has called for a comprehensive redesign of the facility to meet modern healthcare standards and adequately serve the growing population.
According to Dr. Maalug, the current infrastructure, which has stood for decades, no longer meets the demands of contemporary healthcare delivery. He stressed that a redesign is crucial not only to improve patient care but also to ensure the safety and efficiency of health workers.
“Pantang Hospital remains a vital institution in Ghana’s mental health system, but its facilities and layout are outdated. We need a redesign that reflects current realities in healthcare and positions the hospital to deliver world-class services,” Dr. Maalug said.
The Acting Director emphasized the importance of government and stakeholder support to ensure the hospital is adequately resourced and restructured to handle the increasing number of patients.
Pantang Hospital, located in Accra, plays a central role in Ghana’s mental and general healthcare system, but challenges such as infrastructure decay, inadequate facilities, and congestion have hampered service delivery.
Dr. Maalug’s call comes at a time when the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service are seeking to improve health infrastructure nationwide to achieve universal healthcare access.
