Warsaw, Poland – Poland has reported that up to four of 19 Russian drones entering its airspace overnight were shot down by Polish and NATO forces, marking the first recorded interception of Russian drones over Polish territory.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed the incursion, which coincided with a major aerial strike on western Ukraine. According to military sources, Russia launched 415 drones against Ukraine overnight, with a small contingent inadvertently—or deliberately—entering Polish airspace.
Polish and NATO aircraft successfully neutralized several drones, and authorities have since declared the military operation concluded, with airports reopening across affected regions.

The incident raises questions about the Kremlin’s intent. Security analysts suggest the drone entry may have been a deliberate probe to test NATO’s response protocols along its eastern flank.
A Russian diplomat in Poland dismissed the claims as “groundless,” according to state media reports, underscoring the tense diplomatic exchanges following the episode.
The incursion highlights the growing risk of spillover from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has already strained European security frameworks and prompted NATO to strengthen monitoring and air defence measures in member states bordering the conflict zone.
As investigations continue, Warsaw has urged vigilance, with military sources emphasizing that any future breach of Polish airspace will be met with immediate defensive action.
