U.S. President Donald Trump has given Hamas a three-to-four-day deadline to respond to a newly unveiled 20-point peace plan aimed at ending the war in Gaza.
Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump warned that it would be “a very sad end” if the militant group rejected the deal.
The plan, announced alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calls for:
- An immediate end to hostilities.
- The release of Israeli hostages.
- The creation of an international “Board of Peace” to administer Gaza, which would include former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
In addition, the proposal outlines a potential “credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood”, provided strict conditions are met. However, Netanyahu has already vowed that Israel will “forcibly resist” any arrangement that risks its security.
Trump emphasized that if Hamas declines the proposal, Israel will have “full backing to do what you would have to do.”
Meanwhile, Qatar’s foreign ministry confirmed that Hamas is “responsibly” reviewing the White House plan.
Analysts caution that even if accepted, the deal would face significant challenges in implementation, with many of its provisions still vague or unresolved.
