Accra, Ghana – A warehouse fire at Larterbiokorshie in Accra left two people injured on Tuesday during an intense firefighting operation, according to officials of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The Greater Accra Regional Fire Officer, ACFO II Rashid Kwame Nisawu, confirmed that the victims – a fire officer and a civilian – were hurt after falling from the top of the burning structure while attempting to contain the blaze.
Emergency medical personnel administered treatment at the scene before the injured were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Both have since been treated and discharged, with the Accra Metro Fire Commander assuring that they are in stable condition.
The fire, which broke out in the warehouse earlier in the day, was brought largely under control after the deployment of five fire engines and water tankers. However, officials reported that small pockets of flames persisted deep within the structure.
Excavators have been brought in to help firefighters access concealed hotspots, with authorities hopeful that the site will be completely secured by evening, allowing nearby residents to safely return home.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but investigations are underway.
